Bioma Vintage 2020 Pisca Vineyard

A special edition limited to 100 units, with identity, image and production signed by Omdesign, entirely inspired by Dirk Niepoort, one of the most emblematic and charismatic ambassadors of Port Wine.

The box, produced in oak wood with silkscreened elements, “Rolf & The Collectors”, resembles an old toolbox. Inside, there is a bottle, four hand-painted tiles that together reveal the famous phrase: “You can, if you want!”, commonly used by Dirk, and the back of the cork was designed to allow them to also be used as coasters. It also includes a leaflet that invites you to explore the essence of this project. Specially designed and created for this packaging, there is also an exclusive wooden board with a green leather handle and a numbered knife, which embody the concept of this “Vintage with a knife between its teeth”.

All the grape bunches of Bioma Vintage were trodden by foot at our Port Wine vinification centre in Vale de Mendiz. After fortification with grape spirit, the Port was left to stabilise during the winter. In spring, the wine was transferred to a cool part of the Quinta de Nápoles cellar and placed in pipes (the traditional 550 l casks). By maturing this Port in pipes in a cool cellar in the Douro region instead of in large vats in Gaia, and by bottling Bioma “Vinha da Pisca” in the third year after harvest, we managed to produce an exceptionally complex wine. Interestingly, this is how it was done in the "good old days", when wines were shipped in pipes to England and bottled later.
